SUMMARY:SOLD OUT! Into the Gorge: Allen Banks 8-Mile Ramble
DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday\, 28th FebruaryStart Time: 9:00 AM\nDifficulty: ModerateMeeting Point: Shared privately in the group chat after sign upPrice: £20 per person (supporting our chosen charity for 2026\, The Peoples Kitchen\, as voted for by you) \n\nEvent Overview\nJoin us for a moderate and rewarding circular hike through one of Northumberland’s most dramatic hidden landscapes: Allen Banks and Staward Gorge. This 8-mile route is a true adventure through ancient woodland\, steep valley sides\, rugged riverside trails\, and expansive viewpoints over the River Allen. Often described as one of the most magical walking locations in the region\, this route feels wild and remote despite being within reach of the city\, it was also used as a key filming location for hit Zombie Thriller\, 28 years later. Expect twisting forest paths\, wooden bridges and steep sections that earn you sweeping views across the gorge. This is a moderate hike designed for those ready to push themselves a little more than usual and embrace the trail. \n\nA Bit of Local History\nAllen Banks and Staward Gorge sit within a protected stretch of ancient woodland cared for by the National Trust. Over thousands of years\, the River Allen has carved this deep ravine\, shaping the dramatic cliffs and dense forest that make the area so distinctive. Nearby stands Staward Peel\, a medieval fortified tower built during the turbulent border reiver period. The gorge itself once sheltered a hermitage\, adding to the sense of quiet isolation and layered history. Walking here feels immersive and timeless\, with the sound of the river below and woodland rising around you. \n\nPartners and Perks\nWe’re proud to have strong local and outdoor partners supporting this event: \nThruDark – Each attendee will receive a small exclusive takeaway from ThruDark to mark the day and support your future adventures.
