This hike takes us along the River Alwin and into the rolling hills that frame the edge of the Cheviots. Expect peaceful riverbank paths\, open hillsides\, and a sense of remoteness that feels like a true escape from it all. \nThe route offers the perfect balance of riverside calm and expansive upland views. Early autumn colours will be creeping into the landscape\, making this a particularly magical time to explore the area. As always\, we’ll round things off with community\, giveaways\, and a little something sweet to celebrate the miles behind us! \n\nA Bit of Local History\nAlwinton is often called the “Gateway to the Cheviots”. It’s a village that has welcomed travellers\, shepherds\, and hill-walkers for centuries. The surrounding hills are dotted with ancient hillforts and old drovers’ tracks\, reminders of the region’s long human history. The River Alwin itself has sustained farming communities here for generations\, winding through a valley rich in stories of resilience and connection to the land. It’s a quieter corner of Northumberland\, and part of the charm is that sense of stepping back in time. \n\nWhy This Matters\nAt Tyne to Summit\, we believe in the power of moving together.. This gentle stroll is perfect for new mams with babies in prams\, no pressure or difficulty\, just fresh air\, good company\, and a chance to connect during maternity time off. \nAfter the walk\, there’ll be goody bags for all attendees and the option to grab a hot drink or snack from the on-site café while the chats continue. \nThis event is about bringing local mams across the North-East together. Becoming a new mam can sometimes feel overwhelming or lonely.
