Event Overview

Join us for an autumn adventure in one of Northumberland’s most stunning and secluded valleys, Alwinton. This hike takes us along the River Alwin and into the rolling hills that frame the edge of the Cheviots. Expect peaceful riverbank paths, open hillsides, and a sense of remoteness that feels like a true escape from it all.

The route offers the perfect balance of riverside calm and expansive upland views. Early autumn colours will be creeping into the landscape, making this a particularly magical time to explore the area. As always, we’ll round things off with community, giveaways, and a little something sweet to celebrate the miles behind us!

A Bit of Local History

Alwinton is often called the “Gateway to the Cheviots”. It’s a village that has welcomed travellers, shepherds, and hill-walkers for centuries. The surrounding hills are dotted with ancient hillforts and old drovers’ tracks, reminders of the region’s long human history. The River Alwin itself has sustained farming communities here for generations, winding through a valley rich in stories of resilience and connection to the land. It’s a quieter corner of Northumberland, and part of the charm is that sense of stepping back in time.

Why This Matters

At Tyne to Summit, we believe in the power of moving together.. Outside, away from distractions, and in places that recharge us. This hike is about slowing down, noticing the details, and enjoying a community experience where the river sets the pace. Whether you’re here for fitness, fresh air, or friendly faces, you’ll leave with a lighter step and a fuller heart.
