Whey aye! What a day we had on Saturday, October 26th, walking along the ancient stones of Hadrian’s Wall, 2000 years of history right under our feet. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the weekend – the sun was shining, the sky was clear, and the autumn air was crisp, just the way we like it. Honestly, absolutely belter conditions for a group ramble!
Ramblin’ through History at Hadrian’s Wall
Our Tyne to Summits crew turned out in force – 25 keen hikers all up for a canny walk and, of course, a bit of banter along the way. We even had a couple of furry friends trotting alongside, tails wagging and loving the fresh air as much as we were. It’s always mint to see new faces too, and they all brought some really good crack. We kicked off with a lush 5-mile loop, taking in views that, let’s be honest, would’ve probably left the Romans a bit jealous.
Following the Wall felt like stepping back in time, imagining the Roman soldiers keeping an eye on things from up there. But we weren’t marching, oh no – we were taking our time, soaking in those lush views over Northumberland. Every step was a treat, especially with the sun staying out from start to finish, which we know is a rare gem in the North East!
Hadrian’s Wall in all it’s glory
After 15,000 steps (not that we’re counting!), it was time for a well-earned rest at the Twice Brewed Inn. We had a table booked, and let me tell you, those pints and plates of scran hit the spot. Nothing quite like a refreshing drink after a proper stomp through the countryside. The laughs, the stories, and the satisfaction of a day well spent were the perfect ending to a mint day out.
Five miles in the bag, fresh air, good company, and back in time for the football – what more could you want? Can’t wait to see everyone on the next one. Keep your eyes peeled on our socials for the next event being launched this week! Thanks to everyone who joined and made it such a cracking day! What a community man.
