Wind, Rain and Donuts: The St Abbs Special

SUPER SATURDAYS.

We swapped the forest for the rugged cliffs this time and headed over to St Abbs on the Scottish borders for a blustery little ramble that turned out to be part nature documentary, part Avengers sequel, part music video and part “why did I think my receding hairline could survive this wind??!!”

From the minute we stepped out the car, the wind slapped us harder than Harry Styles’ ticket prices (he filmed his “adore you” music video here), and the rain came at us sideways like it wanted to test just how Northern we were! But honestly? That’s half the charm. If you don’t get at least mildly battered by the elements, especially in November, can you even call it a British hike? There’s nee such things as bad clothing and aaal that!

The cliffs were unreal though, proper dramatic, like the kind of backdrop you’d expect Captain America to be flying towards, shield tucked under one arm. And despite the gale force hairdryer effect, the crack and enthusiasm was mint.

Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we found ourselves watching seals nesting along the rocks. A full colony, chilling like they owned the place (which, to be fair, they absolutely do). We learned loads about how they protect their pups, how they rest, and how nosey they get when humans are nearby, there was quite a bit of grunting and for once, it wasn’t from Scott’s arse!

Then, we spotted one that had literally just given birth. A tiny, white fluffy, squeaky wee pup in the wild. How class is that? We obviously kept our distance because we’re not morons, but still… what a moment. We all stood there like proud grandparents.

Windswept, rain soaked, and smug with nature knowledge, we wrapped up the 4.5 mile ramble and beelined straight for Ebcarrs Café. If you’ve never inhaled a Deep North donut after being blasted around a cliff edge for two hours, you haven’t lived. Best in toon. No debate.

And as if the scran wasn’t enough excitement, our Spin the Wheel delivered the goods again. One lucky lass walked away with a Farne Islands tour, and another nabbed a shiny pair of Grisport boots. Saturdays don’t get much more mint.

By the time we hit 11,000 steps, we were back home on our setees, thawing out with the heating cranked, feet up, ready for the football (up the mags with the 4-1 win). Perfect timing. It’s what we do.

Christmas event announcement coming next week… and trust us, it’s a cracker.

Well over ÂŁ1,000 raised this year through these walks, which will be donated to the Cat and Dog Shelter, so the animals hopefully have the best Christmas. Thank you as always, you’re all class.

Scott and Steph x
