Bolam Lakes Mamas & Babies Hike

What a morning, man. Our second Mamas & Babies walk took us to the beautiful Bolam Lakes, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a better autumn day for it. Golden leaves, calm water, swans basking in the still waters and that perfect chill in the air that makes your coffee taste ten times better.

We had a cracking turnout too, 20 mams and their beautiful little ones joined us for two circulars around the lake, chatting, laughing, and just soaking up a bit of that much-needed fresh air. You could feel the buzz; prams rolling, babies snoozing , and the sound of good conversation carrying through the trees. And you know what’s funny? Not a single baby made a fuss. There’s something almost magical about it, how the outdoors just settles them. The fresh air, the movement, the trees, the sounds, it’s grounding, not just for us, but for them too. I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: there’s real power in getting outside with your baby. The world feels calmer, lighter, and somehow everything that felt heavy indoors just eases off. It’s medicine you can’t buy, but is ironically free… and every mam there could feel it.

There’s something really special about mornings like this. When you’re in the thick of new motherhood, running on no sleep, caffeine, love, and pure survival. Getting out, talking, and just being around other mams makes a world of difference. It’s not about ticking off steps or smashing miles, it’s about having a space to breathe, to get things off your chest for just an hour or two, and realise you’re not alone in the madness of it all.

This is only the second event we’ve run, and already it’s clear these walks mean a lot and have huge interest in them. The chats, the giggles, the shared sighs of “OHHHH aye, me too”, that’s the good stuff. That’s the reason we do it. We realise just how much we’re all going through the same things. A problem shared is a problem halved.

We finished our walk the right way (obviously), with a well-earned coffee stop, a few more laughs, and plans for what’s next. Because we’re not slowing down anytime soon! I’ll be aiming to run two of these a month, giving new mams a chance to get outdoors, connect, and feel human again for a couple of hours.

And next week? We’re off pumpkin picking! Can’t wait for another lush morning out with you all and your babies.

Here’s to autumn walks, canny company, and the conversations that make motherhood that little bit lighter. You’re all doing amazing, mams, keep going, and keep getting out there.

Love Steph x
