Smiles in the Rain: Our Alwinton Autumn Hike

On Saturday, 20 belter ramblers pulled on their waterproofs and headed for the hills of Alwinton. The forecast wasn’t exactly kind (when is it?!) the North East rain made sure of that, but if there’s one thing we know up North, it’s that a bit of dodgy weather doesn’t dampen good spirits and shy bairns get nowt. Autumn is creeping in now; the leaves along the tracks were just starting to turn, the air felt crisper, and every step seemed to remind us that the seasons are shifting.

Despite the drizzle, the hills gave us plenty in return. Laughter carried through the valleys, the “good crack” never stopped, and smiles were as common and canny as the puddles under our muddy boots. We had a sweet pit stop thanks to our pals at Deep North, who kept us fuelled with donuts (the perfect mid-hike boost if you ask us). We even were treated to their new flavour, the Newcastle Brown Ale glazed donut – mint! If Carlsberg did donuts they’d probably be that’n! And as if that wasn’t enough, two lucky ramblers went home with a little extra joy: one bagged a Running Fox afternoon tea voucher, and another walked away with a brand-new pair of boots from our mint partners Grisport.

For the rest of us, there was still a treat , Grisport are giving our community 15% off site-wide (yes, even sale items!) with the code TYNETOS15. Not bad, eh? Check them out at Walking Boots For Men, Ladies And Children by Grisport

By the end of the five miles, soaked but smiling, we all came down from the hills refreshed, ready to enjoy the rest of the weekend. Rain or shine, it’s the company and the moments along the way that make these walks what they are. Here’s to autumn adventures, muddy boots, and the crack that keeps us coming back. We’ll see you on the trails again very soon, keep October 18th free, it promises to be another cracker! x
