What a way to kick off our Tyne to Summit community! On Saturday, 3rd August, we embarked on our first group hike up to the stunning Windy Gyle, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start.
We were thrilled and incredibly grateful to have 30 enthusiastic hikers join us for this adventure. The energy and camaraderie of the group were infectious, making the day even more special. The sun was shining down on us, casting a warm glow over the rolling hills and setting the perfect backdrop for our trek.

As we made our way up to the summit, we had the unique experience of standing on the Border Ridge with one foot in England and the other in Scotland. There’s something truly magical about being on that line, feeling the connection between two beautiful countries, all while surrounded by breath-taking landscapes.
We weren’t alone on our hike, either! Some furry friends tagged along, adding an extra layer of joy to the day. Their boundless energy and wagging tails were a constant reminder of the pure joy of being out in nature.
A huge shoutout goes to Cal, who joined us to capture the day’s moments. If you’re looking for a top-notch photographer in the North East, who also happens to be a lovely bloke, make sure to hit him up! His photos truly encapsulate the spirit of our hike and the incredible landscapes we traversed.
By the end of the day, we had completed 10 miles and a whopping 24,000 steps. Despite the challenge, everyone remained unified and in great spirits, bringing a positive energy that helped us smash through any obstacles. It was a day filled with laughter, determination, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this fantastic start to our Tyne to Summit series. We can’t wait to see you all again on the next adventure! If you missed out, don’t worry—there are plenty more hikes to come. Let’s keep the momentum going and make this an unforgettable journey together.
