We Won the Hero of Northumberland Award – And We’re Honestly Still Speechless

There are moments in life that truly stop you in your tracks, and being named Hero of Northumberland is one of those moments for us.

When we started Tyne to Summit, we didn’t set out to win awards. We just wanted to create something that mattered to people, something that brought people together, that got people outside, moving, talking, and healing. Something that offered connection in a time when so many of us were feeling lost or alone. And now, to be recognised with such a meaningful honour, we’re honestly overwhelmed in the best possible way.

What This Means to Us

To win Hero of Northumberland is humbling beyond words, especially to win it alongside Lioness, Lucy Bronze. It’s not just an award, it’s a reflection of every early morning hike, every nervous first-time hiker who showed up anyway, every wet and windy day we powered through together, every message we’ve received from someone saying, “I really needed this.”

For Steph and me, this isn’t just a project outside of our 9-5 day jobs. Tyne to Summit has been our heart and soul, a true labour of love. It started as a spark, an idea to get people back outside, to reconnect with themselves and each other and it’s grown into a full-blown movement. To have that recognised on such a public stage, in the region we love so much, means more than we can ever properly express.

Why Northumberland Matters

Northumberland isn’t just our backdrop… it’s part of the story. The hills, the wind, the coastlines, the silence between trees… they all hold space for reflection, joy, and transformation. We’ve always believed that the outdoors can be a lifeline to people, and this award tells us that belief resonates with others, too.

This region has a special kind of magic, and being called Heroes of this place? It’s an honour we’ll carry with pride.

A Thank You to Our Community

We genuinely couldn’t have done this without you. Every single person who has joined a hike, shared a post, told a friend, donated, or just messaged us with encouragement. This award isn’t just for us. It’s for all of you who show up, who believe in what we’re doing, and who make this community what it is.

Thank you for trusting us to laugh with you into the hills, for sharing your stories, and for walking beside us.. literally and figuratively.

What’s Next

This award has lit a fire under us. It’s a moment of reflection, yes… but also motivation. There’s still so much to do, so many new paths to explore, so many more people we want to reach. We’re more committed than ever to growing Tyne to Summit and continuing to use the outdoors as a tool for well-being, connection, and change.

We’re just getting started.

From the bottom of our hearts thank you.

Scott and Steph x
