Kicking Off 2025: A Snowy Stroll Through Kielder’s Winter Wonderland

Areet RAMBLERS! It was a new year, but the same us – kicking off 2025 in the reet way – fresh, fit and rich in life! Our group hike on 11th January was a belter, and we’re buzzing to share all about it! Here’s how 20 of us tackled the lush trails of Kielder to shake off the festive cobwebs and start the year strong with our January Group hike.

What’s the Crack?

It was a proper wintry morning, but that didn’t stop us from lacing up our boots and gannin’ for it. We set off on a 6.5-mile trek, winding through Kielder’s lush forests and snowy trails. With the crisp air in our lungs and stunning views over the lake, it was pure magic from start to finish. The vibe? Unmatched – canny as owt – everyone was raring to go and up for the crack.

The Journey

We kicked off with some gentle inclines, just enough to warm up those legs and slowly burn off some of the Christmas chocolates. As we meandered through the frosty woodland, the snow crunched underfoot, and the lake glistened like something out of a postcard. There were a few cheeky stops along the way for a natter, a drink, and, of course, to soak in the scenery and get a few shots – you’d be daft not to!

What Made It Special

It wasn’t just the views that made the day a topper. It was the 20 ramblers who turned out, each one adding to the buzz, this hike was initially postponed due to storm Darragh at Christmas but the conditions made it well worth the wait! Whether you were catchin’ up with old pals or makin’ new ones, the banter was flowin’ like a good pint of Brown Ale at the local.

Why We Love It

This hike was about more than just stretching our legs; it was about clearing our minds, breathing in that fresh country air, and reminding ourselves what makes the North East so special. Forests, lakes, snow, people, good crack – it doesn’t get much better than that!
